Quincy-based Quirk Auto Dealerships has made a significant donation to the Quincy College Foundation, becoming the latest organization whose philanthropic support is helping establish a growing number of scholarships for deserving Quincy College students. The $25,000 gift will fund multiple Dan Quirk Scholarships (named in honor of the company’s president) and a portion of the gift will be earmarked for the Foundation’s general scholarship fund. “Throughout almost 50 years in business, I’ve been guided by a simple philosophy: the harder you work, the luckier you get,” said Quirk. “It’s a privilege for me to be able to recognize and reward students at Quincy College for their hard work and to inspire their academic, personal, and professional success.” “This gift from Quirk Auto Dealerships exemplifies the good corporate citizenship that Dan Quirk and his team espouse,” said Paul Barbadoro, Chair of the Quincy College Foundation. “We’re sincerely grateful for a level of generosity that will make an enormous difference to many Quincy College students for whom receipt of a scholarship can be life-changing.” As the state’s only municipal college (and one of only two in the United States), Quincy College receives no direct city or state funding for operations and relies primarily on revenue generated through enrollment. The Quincy College Foundation serves as the college’s single philanthropic arm and collaborates with administrative and academic leadership to establish, cultivate, and sustain mutually beneficial relationships with and solicit charitable contributions from current and prospective donors, alumni, and private foundations. In addition to student scholarships, Foundation trustees advocate for community support for student life programs (including athletics), faculty-focused programs, and select academic initiatives. Since its founding in 1958, Quincy College has evolved from a traditional two-year, single-campus community college to an institution of higher education offering three bachelor’s degrees, nursing and a variety of allied health programs, and industry-recognized excellence in biotechnology education. It strives to align curriculum offerings with the needs of regional employers so that students enjoy smooth pathways to fulfilling employment. In addition to its main campus in downtown Quincy, the college includes a satellite campus in Plymouth as well as ArLab, a state-of-the-art healthcare, biotechnology and life sciences career institute and workforce training facility in partnership with JVS Boston, located on Arlington Street in Boston’s South End.
