Quincy College’s Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) certificate program in both Quincy and Plymouth has received a top ranking from PracticalNursing.org, which conducts an annual detailed evaluation of test results from all such programs in the United States. After the organization’s review of first-time pass rates for practical nursing students taking the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), the Quincy College program was the only one in the region to be ranked among the top five in Massachusetts; all had student pass rates of 100 percent. “These results further validate the quality and value of a Quincy College nursing education,” said Dr. Diane Gillis, Dean of Nursing at Quincy College. “We prepare our LPN students to pass the NCLEX exam but, more importantly, our concept-based curriculum gives them an advantage as they begin their practice as nursing professionals. Our teaching philosophy is highly individualized, supportive, and rooted in the belief that every student matters because – especially in today’s healthcare environment – every nurse matters.” The NCLEX-PN exam is used by state boards of nursing for testing student proficiency and granting licensure. Many boards use the exam pass rates for each school as a primary way to assess a school's ability to provide practical nursing education. To this end, NCLEX-PN rates are one of the best ways to determine how well a school is preparing its students for a career in the field. “Quincy College’s place in the top tier of the state’s LPN programs is a tribute to the dedication of both our faculty and our students,” said President Richard DeCristofaro, Ed. D. “We’re proud to offer the kind of education, training and career readiness to students eager to maximize the return on their investment and quickly enter the workforce.” LPNs are currently in high demand in Massachusetts and the US Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a nine percent growth in the profession by 2029.
