KINGSTON, QUINCY, BROCKTON, BOSTON, NEW BEDFORD, MA ISSUED DECEMBER 21, 2022…NeighborWorks® Housing Solutions (NHS; www.nhsmass.org), the leading housing service provider in southern Massachusetts, has partnered with the Woodward School (www.thewoodwardschool.org) to establish an intern program. NeighborWorks Housing Solutions recently welcomed a student from the Woodward School, an independent day school for girls in grades 6-12. The intern assisted at the NHS office in Quincy, and supported the office with various day-to-day tasks, including administrative support and research projects. The intern also spent a day assembling bags of nonperishable food for delivery to some of the scattered site locations, which provide housing for families, veterans, formerly homeless individuals, and the elderly. The two-week program allowed the student to receive a working knowledge of the nonprofit sector and specifically those nonprofits that focus on housing and housing insecurity. “We are so grateful to NeighborWorks Housing Solutions for partnering with IMPACT Learning,” said Alex Magay, Woodward Head of School. “The NHS team brought our student in for two weeks and provided her with an exceptional learning experience that significantly impacted her college and career goals and aspirations. She enjoyed going to work each day and developed a camaraderie with the staff. We look forward to building our relationship with NHS and placing future students with them." The Woodward School, located in Quincy, was founded in 1869 by Dr. Ebenezer and Mary Greenleaf Woodward to prepare girls for higher education. Dr. Woodward was a distinguished physician who practiced medicine in Quincy for nearly half a century and was the cousin and family doctor for President John Adams. The school’s mission is to honor and cultivate each student’s academic and personal potential to enrich the world with courage and creativity. “It has been a pleasure to have this intelligent young woman as a member of our team – even for a short time,” said Robert Corley, CEO of NeighborWorks Housing Solutions. “We hope she came away from her time spent here with an increased understanding of our programs.” NeighborWorks Housing Solutions periodically works with interns in some departments, including fundraising and development. Creating partnerships with organizations that support experiential learning allows organizations to focus on projects and support local students. The Woodward School strives to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion through action in all aspects of school life, including educational programming, community interactions, intentional decision-making, and anti-bias training.
