New England Village (NEV) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities realize their potential and pursue their dreams through innovative programs and community living. Using a person-centered approach, we offer a variety of services, including day habilitation, employment supports, and residential living. With 17 modern and beautifully maintained homes in a picturesque setting in Pembroke as well as a state-of-the-art wellness center and a beautiful day facility in Kingston, NEV supports 78 individuals in its Residential Services Division and 160 clients in its Day Services programs. Recognizing how integral quality staff is to the well-being of the individuals we serve, New England Village's management and board of directors have a made a commitment to being the Human Services Employer of Choice in our region.

The Caring Force is a grassroots advocacy initiative of the Provider's Council that seeks to empower those who care about the human services sector to advance an agenda that creates an environment in Massachusetts that protects our most vulnerable neighbors and creates a stronger economy with the pay, recognition, and respect our workers deserve. Today's event was inspirational. New England Village is proud to have been a part of it.

This morning the Citizen Advisory Board (CAB) of DDS Plymouth held a High-Striving & High-Fiving Adult Developmental Services Recognition Breakfast at the Duxbury Public Library. At this event, staff from area providers were recognized for their heartfelt commitment and skills in supporting individuals through the pandemic and beyond. New England Village recognized Mae McNamara. Mae is a highly respected and valued member of the residential team at New England Village. She not only has a genuine care and concern for the individuals she supports, she also is a champion of positivity, flexibility, and gentle spiritedness despite any challenges that come her way. During the recent pandemic, Mae always went the extra mile and worked exhaustively to ensure everyone’s personal well-being was always at the forefront and met. Her creative “can do and will do” leadership style taught those around her that, “We will get through this – together.” And we did. Program Manager Lan Baker was one of three individuals to receive a Light of Dawnn Award presented to unsung heroes in the Massachusetts nonprofit community. Now in its 10th year, this award pays tribute to the memory of Dawnn Ashley Jaffier, a youth worker who was tragically lost to gun violence. The event took place at the West End House Boys and Girls Club in Allston on February 27. Lan’s nomination shared details about her uncanny ability to show up and pitch in wherever necessary at NEV and about her humility and desire to shine a light on others before taking any credit herself. It describes how she goes above and beyond to ensure the people she supports meet their goals and how she builds trust by observing, listening, and providing the most appropriate support exactly when needed. It recounted her experience as a young girl fleeing Vietnam with her family and experiencing incredible kindness while living in refugee camps. It also shared examples of how Lan herself has shown remarkable kindness to so many people at NEV for more than two decades. Josh Kraft presented the award to Lan.
